Polam Oaks with Little Acorns Nursery was formed in 2009 as the result of a merger between two popular and successful Bedford Schools, Polam and Acorn.
Polam School was founded in 1923 by Miss Crump in her home, and moved to the current site on Lansdowne Road after the end of the Second World War. In 1962, it was acquired by Mr. & Mrs. Poole, who arrived with their three children, and soon Polam became well-known for it's special family atmosphere. The school was acquired by the Cognita Schools Group in 2004.
Margaret & Vic Mason opened Acorn Nursery in 1985 in St. Andrews Road. It was also their family home and it, too became known for the family atmosphere and at one time in it's history all four members of the family were working there. With encouragement from parents, Acorn Nursery was extended to offer education up to 8 years old in 1987. The majority of the children now transfer from both schools to the Harpur Trust Schools in Bedford.
